Mher Mkrtchyan, who is considered a famous Armenian actor, People’s Artist of the USSR, a great comedian of the cinema and theater, belongs to the series of living legends. There is not a person who has not even heard his name.

He studied at the Leninakan Drama Studio, and in 1956 graduated from the Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts. In 1953 he was invited to the Gabriel Sundukyan Theater in Yerevan, where he played until 1988. In 1988 he became the artistic director of the Vardan Achemyan Theater-Studio. Mkrtchyan was awarded the USSR State Prize, the Order of St. Mesrop Mashtots of the Republic of Armenia. Streets in Yerevan and Gyumri were named after him, in Yerevan, on the wall of his house, a monument was placed, monuments were erected in Gyumri, Vanadzor and elsewhere.
